Q: Some commuters can know the current location of their vehicles through GPS. On the other hand, some passengers utilize timetables to estimate what time the train (or bus) arrives. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?  Write at least 250 words.

Nowadays, some commuters utilize mobile devices to check the location of the train or bus. On the other hand,  some passengers can estimate what time the train or bus arrives at their destination by looking at a timetable. I believe that GPS gives more beneficial information than a timetable. This essay will explain the advantages of GPS.

On the one hand, devices with GPS give beneficial information to commuters. First, they can alleviate people’s irritation. Passengers can know the vehicle’s current location through GPS. As a result, they can estimate what time it will arrive at the station (or bus stop). Next, commuters can avoid peak times. For example, most transfer stations are packed with many passengers who have to endure stress. However, GPS devices notice the peak times for the station. Besides, public transportation sometimes encounters unexpected trouble such as snow. Even though commuters will be affected by this situation, they can predict how early they should leave home.

On the other hand, there are several drawbacks. First, some passengers cannot predict the time because they do not have mobile devices such as smartphones. They cannot estimate what time the train arrives at the station. Second, some passengers sign up for the operating system to see the information. To clarify, tourists are required to register for a membership in order to utilize the system, and then they must navigate and manage a membership account which could potentially be unfamiliar to them. As a result, they spend a lot of time looking for traffic information.

To sum up, I believe that devices with GPS give more beneficial information than a timetable. First, they can know in real time about the bus or train’s current location. Also, they can get traffic information to avoid peak times. Overall, GPS is more valuable than a timetable.
