Hokkaido and Canada share many similar features, such as environments and cities. These areas are very special to me for this reason.

The environment in Hokkaido and Canada is very similar. According to the map, Hokkaido is the second-largest island in Japan. Moreover, Canada is the second-largest country in the world. These areas would be fantastic scenery for most travellers. It is also crucial to consider their long distances. For instance, travellers reach Kushiro (The largest city in Eastern Hokkaido) from Sapporo(The Capital of Hokkaido) using the Limited Express Train Ozora, which takes about 3 hours. Likewise, VIA Rail takes approximately 5 hours to transport them from Toronto to Montreal. For these reasons, travellers must estimate how long it will take to travel from one city to another.

Hokkaido and Canada have many twin cities. I highly recommend that Canadians visit two representative cities, Hakodate(The largest city in Southern Hokkaido) and Ashibetsu(In the Middle Areas of Hokkaido).

Hakodate and Halifax have each their historical site. Goryokaku and Halifax Citadel these castles have star-shaped shapes. Also, these cities have traditional ports. For such reason, these cities started their relationship in 1982. In December, Hakodate city holds on Hakodate Christmas Fantasy. Halifax City ships a large fir tree to Hakodate between November and December. Christmas Event Commission lights up beautiful ornaments and fireworks.

Ashibetsu and Charlotte Town are also twin cities. Ashibetsu City constructed the Canadian theme park in 1990. For this reason, these cities started their relationship in 1993. Anne of Green Gables is the basis of this Canadian theme park. In 1997, Green Gables in Charlottetown encountered a burning fire. But Ashibetsu city had blueprints they could contribute to reconstructing the original Green Gables. In 2020, some people crowdfunding to keep this big park. As a result, they have continued that beautiful (or nostalgic) park. This park opens between the end of April and ending of October.
